Prince William County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States and is part of metropolitan Washington. According to Census 2010, Prince William County had a population of 402,002. Its headquarters are in the independent city of Manassas. It is part of Northern Virginia and is one of the wealthiest counties in America.

County was a rural community for years and the population was concentrated in two zones, one in Manassas (home of a major railway junction), the other near the Occoquan and Woodbridge along the Potomac River. From the late 1930s, a large suburban population grew up near existing population centers, particularly in Manassas. From the late 1960s, expanded the county and its population dramatically to the point where, in the late 20th century century, was the third most populated local area in Virginia. Much of its growth occurred during the last twenty years. Recently, Prince William County saw the opening of the Museum of the Marine Corps Heritage, Hylton Performing Arts Center, the Museum announced the next 150-US Wartime and commemoration of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War battles and the famous First and Second Manassas.
